NOV. 16, 2011 -- COCA Family Theatre Series is presenting a classic Cinderella story with an African twist: "Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters: An African Tale." The Caldecott Award-winning tale from Dallas Children's Theater will take to the Founders' Theatre stage at COCA Friday, Nov. 18, through Sunday, Nov. 20. Tickets range from $14-20.
"Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters" tells the tale of two daughters who travel across a deep river and through a mystical jungle to meet the king, who is seeking a perfect maiden to make his wife. During their journey, the daughters encounter a number of mysterious situations that test their courage, kindness and strength of spirit. It is a large-scale production with colorful staging and traditional drumming, songs and majestic choreography. This production is best appreciated by children 6 and up, according the the COCA news release.
Free African Dance demonstrations will be presented after the Friday 7 p.m. and Sunday 3 p.m. performances. A question and answer period with the cast follows every performance except Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
