The recently opened MX Movies is offering flicks for downtown residents, visitors and convention-goers. The new three-screen theater is located in the Mercantile Exchange building at Washington Avenue and North 7th Street.
MX Movies offers in-theater food service — you can order from a tablet at your seat, according to the website. The menu is created by Josh Galliano, the former executive chef at Monarch restaurant. And Galliano is not just serving gourmet appetizers; MX Movies serves full meals and cocktails. In addition to starters and sandwiches, the menu includes items like Ricotta Dumplings and Seared Viking Village Scallops.
The theater opened Thursday, Jan. 17, with the Oscar-nominated movies: "Django Unchained," "Les Miserables" and "Lincoln."
If you're thinking this sounds like a theater for grown-ups, well, you might be correct. Jay Swoboda, MX district manager, said their primary demographic is the 25-and-up crowd, but he's quick to point out that the theater is family-friendly. "If we see a lot of families, we'll move to kid movies," he said. "We're not planning on seeing many families right away. We're hoping that will change."
MX Movies is located at 618 Washington, Ave., St. Louis, Mo. 63102. Call 314-222-2994.
