The American Hiking Society's National Trails Day is June 1, 2013, and several area parks are hosting hiking events.
St. Louis County Parks is offering a 3-mile guided hike along Flint Quarry Trail in West Tyson County Park in Eureka. The trail covers a portion of Crescent Hills and is steep in rocky. Participants are asked to meet at 10:00 a.m. in the Roth Lodge parking lot, wear appropriate shoes and should bring plenty of water. For more information, please call 314-615-8484.
The Missouri State Parks is hosting a National Trails Day event in Frontier Park in St. Charles. Bring your bike for helmet checks, a kids bicycle safety program and bicycle rodeo and a Katy Trail hike and bike ride. Other activities include a bike mechanic stations and demonstrations. Another National Trails Day event is being held at Cuivre River State Park near Troy, Mo. MIssouri State Parks will lead a guided nature hike along the Lone Spring Trail beginning at 10 a.m. Reservations are required adn can be made via email to [email protected] Call 636.528.7247 for details.
Pick one of three trails at World Bird Sanctuary to celebrate National Trails Day. The sanctuary will have interpretation stations along the trails with live animals to teach hikers what they might see along the trail. Trails range from 1 to 7 miles. World Bird Sanctuary is also presenting a hiking safety presentation at 10 a.m. in their amphitheater.
