St. Charles Parks and Recreation opened its newest park on Saturday, Oct. 19: Webster Park. Located across the street from Family Arena, Webster Park features a playground and community building.
The playground features plastic and metal slides, swings, rock-climbing structures and musical components. The community building has bathrooms, an indoor capacity of 75 people and a 3,000-square-foot outdoor patio with a large fire pit. The park board has yet to establish pricing to rent the facility, said Maralee Britton, director of St. Charles Parks and Recreation. Until they do so, reservations are $300 plus a $200 security deposit.
The parks and recreation department plans to cut hiking trails into the wooded hills this winter after the leaves fall. The trailhead will be located next to the picnic shelter by the playground.
The 22-acre park is adjacent to Heatherbrook Park, which will receive a facelift from the city's parks and recreation department, Britton said. Heatherbrook's pond will be enlarged and a boardwalk will be installed. Heatherbrook will also feature hiking trails that link to Webster Park.
