Construction is underway on the Lemay Community and Aquatic Center in South County's Jefferson Barracks Park. The aquatic center is projected to open in July 2014, and the recreation center is projected to open the following fall, said Angie Riehn, public information coordinator for St. Louis County Parks.
The aquatic center will include a deep water pool with a climbing wall, slide, and spring and platform diving boards, according to a news release from the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership. The aquatic center will also include a zero-entry pool with a lazy river, splash pad and tot play structure, plus a lap pool, party and locker rooms, and a concession stand.
The 42,000-square foot community center will have an indoor track, fitness equipment, group fitness room, meeting rooms and child care.
The facility will cost $17.6 million to construct and is being paid for by Pinnacle Entertainment and St. Louis County Port Authority. St. Louis County Parks will operate and manage the facility. The center will be open to everyone regardless of residency status.
