Even though temperatures are on the rise, the polar vortex is taking one last jab at St. Louisans. Snow, ice and frigid weather have created construction delays at the Lemay Aquatic Center, originally slated to open in July 2014.
The pool will not open this summer, said Katy Jamboretz, vice president of marketing and communications for the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership.
"We were hoping to open in July , but construction got pushed back two months due to weather," she said. The aquatic center is now scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend 2015. The community center has also seen construction delays but will open in January 2015, just a few months later than expected, Jamboretz said.
TheLemay Community and Aquatic Center is located in Jefferson Barracks Park, at 305 Greg Road, St. Louis, MO, 63125. The aquatic center will include a deep water pool with a climbing wall, slide, and spring and platform diving boards, according to a news release from the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership. The aquatic center will also include a zero-entry pool with a lazy river, splash pad and tot play structure, plus a lap pool, party and locker rooms, and a concession stand. The 42,000-square foot community center will have an indoor track, fitness equipment, group fitness room, meeting rooms and child care. St. Louis County Parks will operate and manage the facility.
