Recreational boaters on Creve Coeur Lake can now follow a four-mile water trail, which will highlight the unique history of the park and its plants and animals.
Points of interest on the trail will include markers with interpretive information that will be available from a brochure or by scanning a QR code with a smartphone. The markers can be read from 14 feet away and will be double-sided, so the information will be readable by those on water and on land. Saint Louis County Parks has partnered with Great Rivers Greenway to bring this water trail to the lake.
"This is a really popular national trend," said Kyra Kaltenbronn, St. Louis County Park's program services manager. "We are always looking for new and exciting ways to provide active lifestyle opportunities to the residents of St. Louis County. We are really excited to be on the cutting edge of this new type of water adventure."
The 320-acre lake is open to non-gasoline powered boats, including kayaks, canoes and paddleboats. The park has a boat rental service.
A kick-off event is planned for Saturday, July 26 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and will include the trail dedication and a Poker Paddle. The community will have the opportunity to try out the new trail while collecting playing cards. Prizes will be awarded to the teams with the best poker hand in three categories: canoes, kayaks and paddle boards. Refreshments will be served following the Poker Paddle.
