The Blue Angels, a U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, performs breathtaking shows for more than 11 million spectators each season. This popular flight squadron will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2016.
The air show returned to Spirit of St. Louis Airport in 2014 for the first time since 2007 with an added emphasis on sparking an interest in science, engineering, math and technology. The STEM Expo was a popular destination for school field trips with hands-on, interactive displays from several St. Louis-area businesses and organizations.
In addition to the air show and STEM Expo, the 2016 event will also feature ground displays and a Veterans Village with resources for veterans and those returning to civilian life.
"For more than a century, St. Louis has been the birthplace and home of some of our nation's greatest heroes of aviation and space," said John Bales, president of the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show Committee. "The 2016 Spirit of St. Louis Air Show salutes not only those military veterans and pioneers of industry who founded that aerospace legacy, but also those who sustain it today and those who will carry it forward by leveraging the rich STEM resources that fuel our community. We believe they are tomorrow's heroes."
