Great Rivers Greenway began construction on the riverfront in 2013. Planned improvements include elevating the roadway to reduce flooding issues, as well as additional lighting, security, greenspace, and biking and accessible walking paths.
"Everyone deserves easy and safe access to our region's front door," said Susan Trautman, executive director for Great Rivers Greenway. "It's exciting to give people opportunities to embrace the river in new ways."
The northern portion of the riverfront will close Friday, Jan. 30. Popular destinations, including the Gateway Arch and Old Courthouse, will remain open throughout the project.
