Update: The Missouri Department of Transportation announced June 27 that two lanes were now open on the new eastbound Boone Bridge.
The Missouri Department of Transportation will shift traffic on eastbound Interstate 64 to prepare for the opening of the new eastbound I-64 Daniel Boone Missouri River Bridge. Up to two lanes of traffic will be closed on eastbound I-64 starting at 6 p.m. Friday, June 26 and will remain closed throughout the weekend.
Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes like I-70 and Route 364. When the lanes reopen, motorists will be on the new eastbound I-64 bridge. The new bridge will be open by 5 a.m. Monday, June 29.
Construction on the $111 million project began in January 2013. The opening of the new bridge will allow crews to begin rehab work on the existing eastbound bridge, which will accommodate future westbound traffic. That bridge is expected to reopen later this year. The current westbound bridge, which was built in the 1930s, will be demolished early in 2016.
