No more IKEA road trips to Kansas City and Chicago: The Swedish home furnishings retail giant has announced its St. Louis store will open Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. IKEA devotees may begin lining up as early as Monday, Sept. 28, for an opportunity to be among the first to explore the new location.
Located on 21 acres along I-64 at Vandeventer Avenue, the store reflects IKEA’s unique architectural style and the largest rooftop solar array in Missouri. The 380,000-square-foot store will feature a supervised children’s area, a “Children’s IKEA area” in the Showroom, baby care rooms and play areas, as well as a 450-seat restaurant where visitors can dine on Swedish specialties like salmon and meatballs with lingonberries. Shoppers can also browse 10,000 items in the store’s 50 room settings and three model home interiors.
