Find out what life was like when Columbus sailed the ocean blue with a tour of the Nina and Pinta Aug. 7-16. The replicas will be available for self-guided tours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at The Loading Dock, located at 401 E. Front St., Grafton, IL, 62037.
The Nina was built completely by hand and without the use of power tools. The ship visits ports throughout the Western Hemisphere and is designed to serve as a floating museum. It also appeared in the film “1492,” starring Gerard Depardieu. The Nina will be accompanied by the Pinta, which features a larger deck space for tours and an air-conditioned cabin below. Both ships are caravels, a Portuguese ship that was popular with early explorers.
Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $6 for children ages 5-18. Admission is free for those 4 and under.
