For every child who’s ever peered into a beautifully decorated gingerbread house and wished they could go inside, two local casinos are making that dream come true. Ameristar St. Charles and River City will transform 650 pounds of powdered sugar, 120 pounds of shortening, 100 pounds of corn syrup and 130 pounds of flour into 800 gingerbread bricks, mortar and icing to create a life-size gingerbread dining experience.
The houses will be constructed Nov. 20-22. The 10-by-9-by-15 German Hűtte constructions will include six oversized cupcakes, stained glass windows and icicles and a 60-pound chocolate Santa Claus. An 8-foot-tall LED gingerbread man will greet families. Children may also create their own custom creations at gingerbread decorating stations.
The Gingerbread House Experience will be available 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 23 - Dec. 25. A $25 reservation fee per family is required; all reservation fees will benefit the Center for Hearing & Speech. Reservations may be made by calling Ameristar at 636-940-4454 or River City at 314-388-7623. Weekends and holidays book early.
Both locations will also sell individual, decorated gingerbread cookies for $3.50 to benefit the center. Each house will offer a holiday menu for $25 per person. Visitors may also order from the restaurant’s traditional menu. No food or drink purchase is required.
House construction will be led by Ameristar and River City's Executive Pastry Chefs Eric Phillips, a past winner of the American Culinary Federation's (ACF) Regional Pastry Chef of the Year Award, and Stephan Schubert, who is preparing to represent the United States in the Americas Division of the Worlds Association of Chefs Society's Global Pastry Chefs Challenge.
The program is presented by iHeartMedia's KLOU 103.3 The Christmas Station.
