Hockey fans will soon have a new place to hit the ice in the St. Louis region. The McKendree Metro Rec Plex is scheduled to open in early January 2017 in O’Fallon, Illinois, and boasts two NHL-sized ice rinks, as well as a 10-lane championship swimming pool, a recreational swimming pool with zero-depth entry, a fitness center and other amenities.
The complex, which is located at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 50 and Scott Troy Road, is designed to serve students and athletes at McKendree University as well as the general public. It will also host the university’s hockey and aquatics teams. Having two indoor rinks provides flexibilitly, as the facilitly will be able to provide open skate times on one rink when the other rink is being used for competitions and events. Drop-in day passes are $5 for visitors under 18 and $8 for adults and include access to the full facility.
The rec plex is waiving the initial $100 fee to join to the first 100 people who sign up. A soft opening will be offered to members in late December.
