Visitors are invited to start 2017 by reconnecting with an old friend: Mother Nature. Missouri State Parks will host First Day Hikes on Jan. 1, 2017, at several state parks in the St. Louis region.
From 1 to 3 p.m. a guided hike will be offered at Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park, which is located at 800 Guy Park Dr., Wildwood, MO, 63005. Visitors should meet at the Alta Shelter Parking Lot; the 1 1/8-mile hike along a flat trail offers views of wildlife and Wildhorse Creek Valley.
A guided hike will also be offered from 1-3 p.m. at Washington State Park, 13041 State Hwy. 104, DeSoto, MO, 63020. Guests should meet at Thunderbird Lodge for this 1.5-mile hike. Refreshments will be provided at the end.
From 2 to 3:30 p.m. a guided hike will be offered at Cuivre River State Park, which is located at 678 State Route 147, Troy, MO, 63379. The 1.5-mile trail takes hikers through woodlands and provides scenic views of Frenchman’s Bluff; some sections are rocky and include a gradual incline. Cocoa and trail snacks will be provided. Visitors should meet at the Stone Shelter Parking Lot.
For a longer hike, visit Meramec State Park, 115 Meramec Park Dr., Sullivan, MO, 63080. Guests should meet at the Visitor Center at noon for the 3-mile hike, which will pass through woodlands, forests, river bottoms and bluffs.
