Exercise for the adventure lover
Core 3 Fitness | Brentwood
If it's adventure you seek, consider a class at Core 3 in Brentwood. Core 3 brings adventure indoors with their various Pedal and Paddle classes. The RealRyder stationary bikes used in the Pedal classes turn, lean and steer along with you, creating a realistic riding experience. An instructor directs your route by telling you when to turn, climb, and of course, push harder. If you’ve always wanted to brave the big waves like Kelly Slater, a land-based surfing class could be the perfect Midwest substitute. The Surfset boards give the movement of a board on water requiring the user to engage their core while moving through Yoga, cardio and strength moves – all while a video of surfers plays in the back of the room. Core 3 offers a combo Pedal and Paddle class or several other Pedal and Paddle workouts. The gym also offers TRX training and babysitting during some of its classes.
Feel like a rock star
Bloom Fitness | Cottleville
Did you ever dream of being a rock star? Make that dream come true by taking a Pound class at Bloom Fitness Studio in Cottleville. Pound incorporates lightly weighted drum sticks into this low-impact cardio and strength training class. You’ll feel like a drummer in your own rock band (one who does a lot of lunges) after sweating it out in this upbeat class. If you’d rather dance to the beat than create it, Country Heat is a line-dance inspired workout also found at Bloom. If you have little ones, they’ll have a great time hanging with other Lil Bloomers in the supervised childcare room which is open during all weekly classes (no childcare on Friday evenings or weekends).
Train like a ninja warrior
Kor Complex, St. Charles and Shinobi Fitness, southern Illinois
If you’ve seen “American Ninja Warrior” on television you’ve probably wondered how you would fare on the course; now you can train like a ninja at Kor Complex in St. Charles and Shinobi Fitness in Illinois. These unique obstacle gyms allow adults and children to challenge their strength, balance, agility and coordination while having fun. Classes are offered for adults, children or families.
