If your family has a passion for helping animals, many local shelters are always looking for volunteers to donate supplies, care for animals and more. Five Acres Animal Shelter in St. Charles has a multitude of volunteer opportunities. With options like walking dogs, going on vet runs, helping to keep up with laundry and dishes at the shelter, and photographing the dogs and cats, it is likely you have a talent that can be put to use. Five Acres requires volunteers to be ages 16 and up to work alone; 13-to-15 year-olds are welcome to help with a parent or guardian. Any age can collect wish list items to bring to the shelter!

Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition
There are so many ways to get the entire family involved in helping the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition. Children can become a “Birthday Buddy” to a child in foster care. Instead of party guests bringing a gift for your child, he or she can collect gifts for a peer in foster care. Families can organize clothing and school supply drives. Older children can help in the ReFresh boutique or with tutoring.
The Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition is located at 1750 S. Brentwood Blvd., Suite 210, St. Louis, MO.
Great Rivers Greenway
Great Rivers Greenway regularly partners with local municipalities and community organizations for cleanup events, like the annual River Des Peres Trash Bash in mid-October. Events focus on keeping trails, parks and rivers accessible and clean. The Great Rivers Greenway Facebook page is a great way to keep up-to-date with current volunteer opportunities.
