At its annual Hazelwood Harvestfest, the city of Hazelwood is challenging residents and visitors to explore the city. The free festival is Saturday, Sept. 8, at Howdershell Park (6800 Howdershell Road, Hazelwood, Mo., 63042).
The theme, "Experience America, Experience Missouri, Experience Hazelwood," is meant to be a call to action, encouraging people to discover all Hazelwood has to offer, said Mayor Matthew Robinson.
"The City of Hazelwood offers much more than you imagine and we're challenging residents to seek adventure in their own hometown and to get involved and enjoy all of its first-class amenities," Robinson said. "We want residents to not only be proud of being Americans and living in Missouri, but also be proud of being citizens of Hazelwood.
"Some of the fun things they can experience in our community range from seeing the legendary Bigfoot to making a splash at the aquatic center, working out at two recreation centers to playing 18 holes of disc golf, viewing the multi-colored light show at Musick Park Sprayground to shopping for bargains at St. Louis Mills, and racing go-karts at NASCAR Speed Park to skating at the IceZone and watching a 3-D movie at Regal Cinema 18," Robinson added.
Harvestfest starts with a parade at 9 a.m. Activities continue from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Howdershell Park. The festival includes children's activities, a climbing wall, zip line and fishing in Cabela's fishing trailer. Miss Hazelwood will be crowned, and there will be horseshoe tournaments and bingo sessions. Trixie Delight will perform at 2 p.m.
