St. Louis, get your running shoes and your wet wipes ready. The Color Run will return to the streets of downtown twice in 2013.
The run that calls itself the craziest, most colorful and happiest 5K on the planet, made its St. Louis debut in August 2012. The unique event gets its name because runners, walkers and stroller riders receive a coating of color at each kilometer of the race. At the end of the run, finishers celebrate with a color party where they launch colored powder into the air and at their running companions.
The 2013 run dates are Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, Sept. 15. Both races begin and end in Poelker Kaufmann Park in downtown St. Louis. The Color Run has not announced the registration fees for the St. Louis events yet. Registration for the spring run opens Tuesday, Jan. 15.
The Color Run has selected Autism Speaks as its charity partner. In 2012, the run sold out in four weeks and raised more than $25,000 for the organization, said Barbara Goode with the St. Louis Chapter of Autism Speaks.
"Autism Speaks is very pleased to be partnering again in 2013 with The Color Run for not one but two spectacular events," Goode said. "And how wonderful that the spring event will take place on April 27, just in time to wrap up what is sure to be an outstanding Autism Awareness Month. Color us excited!"
