It's that time of year when we get the itch for warm weather and all the St. Louis attractions that go along with it! The good news, it's only a month or two until these seasonal attractions open back up for the warmer months. Here is a rundown of opening days in St. Louis.
Museum of Transportation Miniature Train | Friday, March 1 After its winter hibernation, the miniature train at the Museum of Transportation will start chugging around the track — weather-permitting — on Friday, March 1, from 9:20 a.m. to 1:20 p.m. See the weekly schedule on the Museum of Transportation website.
Purina Farms | Wednesday, March 13 When the Purina Farms Visitor's Center opens for spring, it does so with a celebration of baby animals. In addition to dog shows, barn animals, and cats and dogs, Springtime Village features chicks, lambs, piglets, bunnies and more. Be one of the first to see the animals when the visitor's center reopens at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13. Be sure to come back on Saturday, April 20, for a wooly good time when Judy, a lamb, turns 1. The first 150 visitors will receive a free cupcake, and at noon you can wish Judy well by singing "Happy Birthday."
Six Flags St. Louis | Friday, March 29 Six Flags St. Louis will reopen on Friday, March 29, and Saturday, March 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The park will be open on Saturdays and Sundays through May 20 when it resumes daily hours. New in 2013 is the Boomerang, a twisting rollercoaster that reaches speeds of 50 mph. Hurricane Harbor opens for the season on Saturday, May 25.
Doris I. Schnuck Children's Garden | Saturday, March 30 The Missouri Botanical Garden will help kids create seed packets and pot plants in what's become a St. Louis springtime tradition: the reopening of the Doris I. Schnuck Children's Garden. The garden's theme in 2013 is "Foodology" and kids will get to explore edible plants throughout the year in the children's garden. Opening weekend is Saturday and Sunday, March 30 and 31, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
St. Louis Cardinals Home Opener | Monday, April 8 Prepare your excuses to get out of work or school now! The St. Louis Cardinals will take on the Cincinnati Reds at Busch Stadium at 3:15 p.m. on Monday, April 8.
Grant’s Farm | Saturday, April 13 While they're being tight-lipped with any details or official announcements, Grant's Farm is promising new attractions in 2013. The animal park opens for the season from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.
St. Louis Live Steamers | Saturday, April 27 See the expanded track at Eureka's Kircher Park when St. Louis Live Steamers pull visitors along their rails on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Steamers offer free rides on their public run days once a month through the spring, summer and fall. The 2013 dates are May 18, June 29, Aug. 10, Sept. 7 and Oct. 5.
Wabash Frisco and Pacific Railroad | Sunday, May 5 Let the Wabash Frisco and Pacific Railroad's steam engines take you on an open-air train ride along the Meramec River bluffs in Wildwood. The railroad reopens on Sundays beginning May 5 from 11 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Raging Rivers | Saturday, May 25 Slide into summer with Raging Rivers water park. The 20-acre park reopens from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the traditional opening day for all outdoor pools in St. Louis: Saturday, May 25.
