"Like a lot of nonprofits in the area, we rely heavily on donations. We are in desperate need of contributions," said Laura High, a member of the organization's board of directors. Donations are needed to pay for the museum's small part-time staff, exhibit upkeep and the building's utilities. "The great news is we have no debt. This is not to pay our mortgage. It is strictly operating costs."
The museum's goal is to raise $100,000 and re-establish itself on a solid financial foundation, High said. High reports the museum's annual operating budget is just $90,000. The museum's current interim director has been working on a volunteer basis, she said.
Those who wish to help the museum can make a donation online through the museum's PayPal account.
Families are also invited to take advantage of the museum's Parent's Night Out on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. Kids 3 and up who are potty-trained may attend.
