The downtown Macy's has closed up shop, but the iconic Macy's holiday train display will open in November ... albeit at a new location. The American Flyer "S" Gaugers Holiday Train Layout will be on display at the Museum of Transportation beginning on Nov. 29.
"We are grateful to have the opportunity to continue the operation of this St. Louis iconic holiday exhibit," said Darryl Ross, president of the board of the Transport Museum Association. The holiday train operated in the then Famous Barr, now Macy's, downtown department store window at Locust and 7th streets since 1988. With the announced closing by Macy's of their downtown St. Louis store, a new location for the exhibit was found to preserve the layout and to ensure continued use of the display. The museum is excited to add this display to its growing holiday collection, said Terri McEachern, executive director of the Transport Museum Association. The museum also operates the E. Desmond Lee Holiday Train Exhibit, which has been expanded for 2013. Formerly just one level of trains, the E. Desmond Lee Holiday Train Exhibit now includes three levels of track and trains with three different gauges. Be sure to look for every toddler's cheeky friend: Thomas the Tank Engine. Guests can also meet with Santa on the Wabash Caboose on Nov. 29 and 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and weekends in December (see website for times).
