The St. Louis Attack, a member of X-League Indoor Football, will kick off against the Georgia Rampage on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at The Family Arena in St. Charles. This marks the first home game for the Attack.
It's also the first game in St. Louis for any X-League team. This new professional indoor arena football league has teams in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Missouri and Pennsylvania, according to its website. Similar to standard football, the X-League uses a smaller field, eight players on the field per team and additional scoring opportunities, including an X-Bonus period where players can score double points, and extra points for touchdown passes caught within the X-Spot. Teams can even score while they're playing defense.
"It keeps everyone in the game, and every play is important," said Andrew Haines, owner of St. Louis Attack. "It's very fun and fast-paced."
"Most of our fans that come out are not die-hard football fans, they are into an affordable night out with the family," Haines said.
Tickets for the home opener range from $12 to $47 and are available through Metrotix and The Family Arena Box Office (2002 Arena Parkway, St. Charles, Mo., 63303).
St. Louis Attack is owned by Missouri Sports Holdings, the same company that owns the indoor soccer team St. Louis Ambush. In its first year, the St. Louis Ambush averaged 6,000 fans per game, Haines said, and was the top of the league for attendance and ticket sales. "We anticipate that success transitioning over to football. We're excited to have that season start."
