The Kiener Plaza redesign is a partnership between the two organizations and the City of St. Louis, which owns Kiener Plaza. Proposed elements of the design include a large event lawn in front of the Old Courthouse, shade gardens, a playground, interactive water features and a bicycle parking grove. The proposed design is family-friendly and completely accessible.
"Through the proposed redesign, we want to make Kiener Plaza a great gathering place for play, celebration and relaxation," said Maggie Hales, executive director of CityArchRiver 2015 Foundation. "We're excited to get the design in front of the public and see what they think."
The project will be funded through a mix of public and private funding. Great Rivers Greenway will oversee construction of the project and the public funding portion coming from Proposition P revenue. Proposition P was approved by St. Louis City and County voters in 2013 to fund improvements to the Gateway Arch grounds and its surroundings and local parks and trails.
Though a construction date has not been set, completion of the project should take approximately 14 months and begin in 2015.
There will be future opportunities for public input through online forums. For more information on the proposed plans, go to CityArchRiver.org.From the calendar
