The museum, which has remained largely unchanged since it first opened in 1976, will receive an overhaul as part of CityArchRiver 2015. When the museum reopens visitors will be able to explore new interactive exhibits designed by Haley Sharpe Design. The exhibits will look at colonial St. Louis,Thomas Jefferson's vision, the St. Louis riverfront, Manifest Destiny, new frontiers and construction of the Gateway Arch. The Arch and the museum will also receive a new entrance. Construction is expected to be complete in spring 2017.
Due to construction capacity inside Gateway Arch will be limited. Beginning March 2, tickets for Journey to the Top and Arch Entry-Only must be purchased in advance by visiting the Old Courthouse, by calling 877-982-1410 or online at ticketsforthearch.com. The Journey to the Top ticket includes the tram ride to the top of the Arch and the documentary "Monument to the Dream," while Arch Entry-Only tickets only include access inside the Arch facility and a showing of the documentary.
