With the Aug. 2 passage of Prop PARKS, officials in O’Fallon, Missouri, are working to issue the bonds necessary to create a new park. Positioned on donated land, O’Day Park will be located off Hwy. DD southwest of Hwy. 40. The current O’Day Park master plan includes an amphitheater, trail, playgrounds, a possible zip line, teen space, a lodge and more. Once the bonds are issued, the city will begin the bid process for the final construction plan design.
Alligator Creek Aquatic Center, also in O’Fallon, is another beneficiary of the proposition. Improvements to Alligator Creek will include a new splash pad, a zero-depth entry pool, water features and a longer lazy river. Engineering and design work bids are being collected until Sept. 30.
In Wentzville, a new, universally-accessible playground project is moving forward at Heartland Park. Upon selection of a design firm by the City of Wentzville, Unlimited Play and Friends of Wentzville parks will work to make Jake’s Field of Dreams playground a reality. Jake’s Field of Dreams is named for Jake Vollmer, who died in 2012. Vollmer suffered from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which took away his ability to play sports.
Unlimited Play is spearheading fundraising for the project, including a fundraiser trivia night Saturday, Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wentzville Community Club. The cost is $160 for a table of eight; only those ages 18 and older may participate. To reserve a table, call 636-332-9236 or email [email protected].
