CityArchRiver will unveil the newly renovated Kiener Plaza during a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon Friday, May 19, with a community celebration to follow from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, May 20.
The renovated plaza will feature a playground, splash pad, ample seating, more than 140 new shade trees, enhanced lighting and improved pedestrian connections and street parking. The plaza will also be home to The Courthouse Lawn, a space that will hold 2,000 people for concerts and other special events. The iconic Runner Statue will return with a new fountain and LED lighting.
The one-year renovation was made possible by a partnership among Great Rivers Greenway, CityArchRiver Foundation and the City of St. Louis. The $23.7 million Kiener Plaza project is funded privately through the CityArchRiver Foundation and with Proposition P funding overseen by Great Rivers Greenway.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony May 19 will include live music and food trucks. On May 20, guests can enjoy music, food and drink vendors, kids’ activities and a visit by Fredbird. The event, which is designed to be both family- and pet-friendly, will lead up to the St. Louis Cardinals game against the San Francisco Giants at 6:15 p.m.
