St. Louis has played host to several high-profile sports events, including the World Series and the recent NHL Winter Classic. Now local racing fans are in for a thrill ride as Gateway Motorsports Park hosts the inaugural INDYCAR Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Valvoline Aug. 26 in Madison, Illinois. In honor of the event, Gateway Motorsports Park will host the new, week-long St. Louis Speed Festival, which kicks off Aug. 19.
The festival, which is modeled after the Indy 500 Festival, will feature several events. Highlights will include GO! St. Louis Run at the Raceway, a 5k run/walk and one-mile fun run; Cycle the Raceway, an opportunity for cyclists to bike the speedway; INDYCAR night at Busch Stadium; an INDYCAR Fan Fest with special driver appearances; and practice and qualifying races.
The festivities will culminate in the inaugural Verizon IndyCar Series Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Valvoline, which will bring together top American drivers, as well as competitors from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Japan, New Zealand, Spain, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
