COCA has announced a diverse lineup for its 2017-18 COCA Presents, including improv, imaginative physical comedy, ballet and a production of the Tony Award-winning musical “The Wiz.”
The new season kicks off Oct. 20-22 with “The Wiz,” led by guest Artistic Director Ron Himes from The Black Rep. “The Wiz” takes audiences on an upbeat trip to The Land of Oz with an upbeat blend of rock, gospel and soul.
In November, COCA will introduce young audiences (ages 3 and up) to theater with “Balloonacy!,” a sensory-friendly performance with imagination and physical comedy.
Celebrate the holidays with Joyful Concert, which will feature traditional and winter music, and The Little Dancer: La Muse, which tells the story of Edgar Degas’ famous sculpture through ballet.
In February, The Story Pirates will bring children’s zany stories and imaginations to life through improv. Other highlights of the upcoming season include performances by COCAdance and The COCA Hip-Hop Crew; the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company; and a production of “West Side Story.”
The 2017-18 season will be COCA’s last in Founder’s Theatre, as COCA will begin renovation and expansion that will include a new Performance Lab and theatre.
