Great Rivers Greenway has announced plans to close the southern trailhead of Gravois Greenway, also known as Grant’s Trail, beginning Sept. 25. The closure is part of an ongoing project to connect the trail with the River des Peres Greenway.
Phase one is expected to last into spring 2018; the last 750 feet of the paved route will be closed for approximately eight months while trailhead improvements, including restrooms, benches, landscaping and a play structure, are underway. Phase two will extend the 8-mile Gravois Greenway an additional 2 miles to connect with River des Peres Greenway
During the closure, Great Rivers Greenway has leased a 16-vehicle parking lot adjacent to Grant’s Trail at Reavis Barracks Road to service as a temporary trailhead. No other trailheads or designated parking areas are expected to be impacted.
Great Rivers Greenway will celebrate the project with a “Last Hurrah” celebration Sept. 23 from 8-11 a.m. at the existing trailhead, which is located near Orlando’s Event and Conference Center at 4300 Hoffmeister Ave., St. Louis, MO. Visitors are invited to stop by for coffee and snacks and to learn more about the project.
Great Rivers Greenway is a regional greenway district that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all in the St. Louis region by connecting people to their rivers, parks and communities through a network of greenways.
