Laumeier Sculpture Park is expanding its programming this summer to offer visitors even more ways to explore the connection between art and nature.
Laumeier is encouraging even the tiniest artists to engage in art and nature through its new Pre-K offerings. At Nature + Me, children ages 1-3 can learn more about the birds, frogs, insects and other animals that call the park home. Nature + Me starts with story time, followed by playtime and activities. The park will offer the program on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month through August, 10:30-11:30 a.m. During Stroll + Stretch + Play, parents can get exercise as children work on fine and gross motor skill development. The program will be offered the first and third Thursdays of the month through October from 10:30-11:30 a.m. The cost for both programs is $10 per caregiver/child per session.
Explore Laumeier after sunset during the park’s new After Dark Series, which is supported by a grant from PNC Arts Alive. On June 16 from 8:30-10:30 p.m., guests ages 16 and up can search for treasure on a nighttime scavenger hunt. Registration is $20 and includes refreshments. On Aug. 18 from 7:30-9:30 p.m., visitors of all ages are invited to the park for an evening of stargazing. Registration for the event is $10.
On the third Wednesday of each month, teens and adults can join local artists and art organizations in the creative process during Maker Nights. On June 20, guests ages 16 and up can spend an evening drawing or painting in the park; the event is free, though an RSVP is requested. Supplies are available for purchase through the park for $15; easels may be rented for an additional $5. July 18, from 6-9 p.m., visitors ages 16 and up can make a DIY concrete bird bath. The cost is $20 and includes supplies and construction.
Laumeier Sculpture Park will offer programs designed to stretch visitors’ minds and bodies. New Sculpt-Fit Programs will feature yoga classes in the park. The park will offer Sculptural Yoga classes the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, 9-10 a.m., through October. Sculptural Stretch + Flow classes will meet the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, 10:30-11:30 a.m., through October. Classes are $10 each and are geared to adults.
